Calculator Information
7TH GRADE ALGEBRA
A graphing calculator from the TI-83/84 series is optional for students in 7th grade Algebra. It is expensive, costing $100+, however, your child will also use it in high school. Unlike some of the other more elaborate calculators, all of the TI-83/84 calculators are allowed for use on the standard testing your child will have over the next 5 years (ISAT, Explore, PSAT, ACT, SAT, etc.).
- I suggest you purchase a TI-84+ or silver edition but if you already have any of the TI-83/TI-84 series that is okay also! They all have the same keypad layout. The more recent models have more memory and have more applications. Do NOT buy a TI-89.
- ENGRAVE your child's name on the calculator. (stop by room 306 during the school year!)
- Once the school year begins, remind your child to NOT "set" their locker.
- Please remind your child not to play games on their graphing calculator at school.
Students are required to have a TI-34 multiview or TI-34 II calculator with them each day. This calculator will be used by all students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Calculators are available at most stores (Walmart, Target, Office Max, Office Depot, etc.) and cost around $20.
NOTE: If you are currently in 7th grade Algebra, read the information to the right regarding graphing calculators for next year. If you decide to buy a graphing calculator this year, KEEP your TI-34 calculator for quizzes and tests.
