Students in 5th Grade Band are primarily students in fifth grade starting an instrument for this school year. 5th Grade Band students work out of the Essential Elements for Band Book 1 published by Hal Leonard.
Each 5th Grade Band student receives a weekly 30-minute instrument lesson at their elementary school and attends one weekly after-school rehearsal. The Bryan Area Intermediate Band, which consists of students from Lincoln, Jefferson, and Jefferson, rehearses after school on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 at Bryan Middle School.
The small-group instrument lesson allows the teacher to provide individualized instruction and assessment to each student on specific instrumental techniques.

Instrument Technique Classes
Each band student attends a weekly small-group instrument technique class. The small-group class allows for instrument-specific instruction and individual assessment. Students are excused from one of their regular class periods on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday to attend an instrument technique class. The technique class schedule rotates weekly so that students will only miss the same period once every four weeks.
A comprehensive list of required materials and supplies as well as information about grading, class expectations, and performances is included in the Bryan Concert Band Musician's Manual.
