Social Studies

6th Grade

The study of United States history from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War.  Students will begin by briefly reviewing the American Revolution and then learn about the structure and powers of the federal government as well as the rights and roles of citizens.  Students will also study westward expansion, the factors that pushed or pulled people west as well as the outcomes of westward movement.  Finally, students will end the course by carefully examining the causes of the Civil War as well as the geographic, economic and cultural differences between the North and the South.
 

7th Grade

Students will explore and evaluate the ways in which America changed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Not only did America experience drastic changes at home, but the United States also expanded their power and influence around the world. Throughout the course, students will use credible sources to support arguments while making connections among historical events.  Units of study include: Immigration, Industrialization & Progressivism, World War I, Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression and World War II.

8th Grade

Students will gain a greater understanding of global perspectives by the study of Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.  Using a multi-disciplinary approach, students will examine the geography, history, culture, and current events and issues of each region.
