Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th Grade Bryan Students,

It is an exciting time of year for our 8th grade students as we get ready to celebrate their 3 years at Bryan Middle School and begin to wish them well on their next chapters in their education.  We recognize that these students have had a disjointed middle school experience and we are so excited to rally around them and celebrate them as a community!

As we continue to pivot due to Covid-19, I wanted to communicate some new end of year  information to you about the upcoming weeks of school.

PLEASE NOTE: This is the FIRST communication regarding promotion with more specific details to come. Please continue to be patient as we work on an entirely new promotion plan.

Prior to Promotion:

  • Students will need to have all fines cleared up in order to obtain their diplomas.  Please be sure to check with your student about lunch dues, books, heart rate monitors, and textbooks, prior to the last days of school.

  • On Monday, May 24, promotion gowns will be distributed during the school day.  To be picture ready, it is suggested that gowns be taken out of the original packaging prior to the ceremony and hung in order to remove wrinkles.

  • On Thursday, May 27th students will participate in promotion practice activities and celebrations at Bryan Middle School. We are grateful to the PTA who will help purchase some special promotion items for our students in addition to providing a grab and go lunch for students on their last day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30.

Promotion Promenade Information

  • All students will have the opportunity to come to Bryan Middle School during their assigned “wave” to walk across a stage and receive their diploma outside in front of the school. All students will be assigned a specific time to attend their promotion promenade. Students and families will learn their assigned homeroom wave soon.

    • The first RED promotion wave is scheduled to begin at 4:15.

    • The second WHITE promotion wave is scheduled to begin at 5:00.

    • The third BLUE promotion wave is scheduled to begin at 5:45.

  • Immediate family is invited to attend and walk parallel with their student. Parents will line up outside in ABC order next to the softball field. (Future communications will include a specific map and line up for parents) Please be advised that there is a significant amount of walking for parents.

  • There are no tickets needed for the promotion ceremony. We also ask that parents and visitors do not bring any bells, horns, balloons or other noisemakers which would draw attention away from the event.

  • Students are encouraged to wear dress clothes and are recommended to be worn under the gown as are comfortable shoes due to significant walking.  Bryan students should take pride in their appearance, and dress in such a way that is a positive representative of our school.

  • All students and visitors will be expected to wear a mask at all times at Bryan Middle School. We will continue to adhere to social distancing and current CDC guidelines as well.

  • Tom Kiloran photography will be on site to capture photographic moments from the day. They will be taking a picture of your student as they cross the state. Immediately after they cross the stage, there will be a family photo station opportunity. Masks can only be removed in this family photo station.

  • Students can only take pictures with their immediate families at Bryan Middle School.

  • Due to social distancing regulations and giving everyone a chance to have their moment to celebrate, we ask that families leave swiftly upon their promotion moment.

At Home Promotion Family Viewing Event

  • On Thursday, May 27th at 4:00 an email with the Bryan Middle School Virtual Promotion Ceremony link will be shared with families.

  • After your student has the opportunity to walk across the Bryan stage and collect their diploma, we are encouraging families to go home and view the Bryan Middle School Virtual Promotion Ceremony. Families can expect some key words from administration and staff, as well as student speeches. Every student’s name will be read with their homeroom.

  • Additionally, 8th grade families can also watch the virtual awards assembly, which will also be emailed to families on Thursday.

  • We hope that this personal approach to the promotion will provide a safe experience for families to come together to celebrate your student at home!

Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, we want our 8th grade students to end on a positive note this year. We will continue to remind them about the 3Bs at Bryan. We want all of our students to be respectful, to be responsible, and to be safe. We ask that you remind your 8th grade student that these expectations are especially important on the home stretch of the year. We want our students to be able to participate in all of the special activities planned, but we expect that they finish the year strong!

Feel free to contact the main office, or your student’s counselor, Maggie Pack, if you have any additional questions.  We look forward to celebrating with you soon!

Respectfully,
