Dear 8th Grade Parents,

We are on the home stretch here! Again, here is a day by day breakdown of events with a little bit more detail for our 8th grader students and families.

Monday, May 24:

  • Promotion gowns are distributed to 8th grade students in homeroom. We encourage families to hang the gown up for a few days to allow the wrinkles to fade out.

Tuesday, May 25:

  • 8th grade remote families can pick up 8th grade promotion gowns in the main office from 8:00am-3:00pm. All 8th grade remote students are invited to participate in last day events AND the promotion promenade.

Wednesday, May 26:

  • Last day of exploratory & core classes for 8th grade students

  • Technology Turn In for 8th grade students

Thursday, May 27:

  • All remote students are invited to attend the last day of school with their classmates if they choose.

  • From 8:30am-11:00am, 8th grade students will participate in a variety of exit activities.

  • At 11:00am students will enjoy a picnic lunch from Southtown sponsored by the PTA.

  • Students are dismissed at 11:30am. Busses will run to take 8th grade students home.

  • Families will report back to Bryan during their assigned promotion wave time slot.

    • 4:15-4:45pm: Group 1: RED Group: Baumeister, Samp

    • 5:00-5:30pm: Group 2: WHITE Group: Mangun, Johnson, Felde

    • 5:45-6:15pm: Group 3: BLUE Group: Curran, Szafranski, Sweeney/Nunes

  • The Virtual Awards Assembly and Virtual Promotion Presentation will be emailed to 8th grade families at 4:00pm. This link can be shared with other family members. The Virtual Promotion Presentation is pre-recorded including our student award speeches. Each student’s name is read from their homeroom teacher.

Summary of Promotion Events

  • Parents will enter Bryan Middle School off of Euclid St. There will not be an entrance off of Butterfield Rd.

  • Parents will drop off their student in the gym.

  • Parents will park in the Bryan parking lot (or on a side street) and assemble in the softball outfield.

  • Parents and students will both follow Bryan staff members in an orderly fashion and meet on the corner of Euclid.

  • Students will walk across the stage to get their diploma when their homeroom teacher calls their name.

  • Parents will walk parallel to the stage and watch their student.

  • Photo opportunities by Tom Kilioran photography are available if families choose.

  • Families will pick up photo print outs.

  • Families will exit from Bryan Middle School going left on Bryan Drive and heading right onto Butterfield Rd.

All promotion information that was sent out so far is posted on our website under Promotion Information 20-21.

Only immediate family is invited to attend the in person promotion promenade. Please note that there is a significant amount of walking in the promotion events.

Rain Plan
If we adjust to our rain plan, information will be emailed to families on Thursday. The three promotion waves and time frames will remain the same.

Mask Use
We ask that all people participating in the promotion events are masked at all times. During the family photo station, families can remove their masks for the picture.

Technology Returns
It was brought to our attention that there has been some confusion around learning device hand-in expectations for 8th grade students. To clarify, ALL 8th grade students are expected to turn in their learning device before summer break. If an 8th grade student will participate in a D205 sponsored summer learning program, they are permitted to keep their device to support that program, after it is checked in with their class.

Residency Verification
All current 8th grade families promoting to York High School next year and families with expired leases/special residencies need to verify their residency before the 21-22 school year. Please reference the RESIDENCY VERIFICATION FORM 21-22. Please bring all required documents to the Bryan Main Office Monday through Friday 9:00am - 3:00pm. There will be more information from the District regarding other opportunities over the summer to prove residency before next school year.

Medication Pick Up Before Summer Break
If your student has medication in the Health office, please make arrangements to pick it up prior to the last day of school on May 28th.
No medication can remain in the Health office during the summer.

We are looking forward to celebrating our 8th graders with you on Thursday!

Respectfully,

Jacquie Discipio
