Dance Class Information

2023-2024 7TH AND 8TH GRADE DANCE CLASS

Dance Class is a popular 8-week class in which students learn classic dance moves (line, swing, waltz, foxtrot) from a professional instructor playing today's popular music.

Dance class will run on Fridays from 7:15 – 8:30 pm for 7th grade and from 8:45 - 10:00 pm for 8th grade. The dates are 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/15, 2/23, 3/1. Student will be asked to sign a code of conduct document. Note that one class will be on Thursday, 2/15, instead of Friday due to the long weekend.

PTA Members pay $85 for the class, non-members will pay $105 if paid by regular registration deadline of Wednesday, December 20. Late registration will be available from December 21 to January 10 for a fee of $120 for all students.

Please review the important Dance Class Information below WITH your child and complete one form for EACH child attending dance class. In registering and paying for Dance Class, you and your student are agreeing to follow all rules and adhere to all policies.

  1. All District 205 School Rules still apply during this class in addition to specific guidelines about the dress code. Students who do not follow the rules may not be admitted.


  2. A pre-arranged safe ride home must be planned and communicated in advance. All students are expected to be picked up promptly at the end of dance class. The responsibility for the whereabouts and safe transport of your child to and from Dance Class is the parents' responsibility.


  3. Students must be in school for at least half a day (5 classes) in order to participate in dance class that evening.


  4. Students who receive disciplinary consequences may not be able to participate in this event.


  5. Students will be REQUIRED to show a Bryan ID at check in - this can be the actual ID or a photograph of it on a student's phone. If you do not have your ID or a photo of your ID, you will be required to pay a $2 fee to participate in Dance Class that evening.


  6. Only students registered for the classes will be allowed in the gym. Only registered parent volunteers will be allowed in the gym.


  7. Gum chewing is NOT permitted.


  8. There is NO cell phone usage Dance Class. This includes taking videos or photographs of yourself or other students. After a first warning, any cell phone observed by a chaperone will be held by the chaperone until the end of Dance Class.


  9. My student will adhere to the following Dress Code

DRESS CODE - GIRLS : Dress or dressy top with skirt or dress slacks. Dress/Skirt length MUST be AT LEAST fingertip length (test it out at home!). ALL straps on tops MUST be AT LEAST 2-3 fingers wide (aka NO spaghetti straps). One shoulder dresses are permitted so long as no undergarments are showing. NOT permitted: strapless or low-cut tops or dresses, cutouts of any kind, and bare midriffs, sides or backs. Denim jackets, shrugs or sweaters MUST be worn if your dress is questionable. Flat dress shoes, ballet flats or casual shoes (aka Vans or Converse) are allowed. No heels of any size/height, including wedges. No athletic shoes.  If you are unsure about shoe choice, just think about how it will feel to have your toes stepped on...if it would hurt, then probably not a good idea! NO athletic pants, sweats, leggings, denim pants of ANY color, shorts, gym shoes or flip flops are allowed.

DRESS CODE - BOYS : Button down dress shirt (tucked in), tie (optional), dress pants or khakis, dress socks, non-scuffing dress shoes or casual (NOT athletic) shoes (aka Vans or Converse). Belts are optional but all pants must fit appropriately with no undergarments showing. NO athletic pants, sweats, leggings, denim pants of ANY color, shorts, gym shoes or flip flops are allowed.

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS FOR SCHOOL EVENTS AND DANCES

In order to make school events and dances an enjoyable event for all students and to ensure a safe and respectful environment, the following expectations have been set up for behavior at school events and dances. 

Remember that attendance at a school event or dance is a privilege, not a right.  

These expectations must be agreed to by each student and parent.
